3 events you’ll want to attend for Huntsville History Month
Did you know that October is Huntsville History Month? Though Huntsville History is reoccurring daily from October 1 to the 31, we’ve gathered 3 events you must attend! From ghost tours to honoring suffragists, come celebrate history in the Rocket City.
1. Self-guided Old Railroad Bed Trail Tour at Monte Sano
Join Monte Sano’s FREE audio trail tour as they celebrate Huntsville History Month. Download the TravelStorys app so you can follow the tour. Learn about the history of Monte Sano and the trail as you hike down 1.5 miles trail.

2. Ghost Walk Tours
Haven’t gone on a ghost tour in Huntsville yet? Now is the time to go. Nothing compliments history like ghost stories and haunted houses and Huntsville is rich with both. Stories date back to the early 1800s, back when Huntsville was still called Twickenham.
When can you go? Every Friday and Saturday, the tours start at 6PM. Book your Ghost Walk tour now. Choose from these three tours:
FUN FACT: Twickenham—AKA Huntsville—contains the site where the Alabama constitution was written and signed.
3. Historic Huntsville Foundation: Recognizing Black suffragists
The Historic Huntsville Foundation is honoring Huntsville’s Black suffragists Sunday, October 24th at 2PM. Check out historic re-enactors recreate the history. You’ll get to see them dedicate a new historic marker at William Hooper Councill Memorial Park. There will also be live music and guest speakers!
The Historic Huntsville Foundation is honoring these six prominent Black women:
- Mary Binford
- Ellen Brandon
- India Herndon
- Lou Bertha Johnson
- Celia Love
- Dora Lowery (her granddaughter will be a speaker)
These ladies will have a historic marker dedicated to them because of their work towards voting rights. You don’t want to miss this ceremony celebrating Huntsville History Month.
