10 NFL players from Alabama colleges and high schools are on Super Bowl LVII rosters
Reading time: 3 minutes
With all the upcoming focus on Jalen Hurts being the first former University of Alabama quarterback to start a Super Bowl since Ken Stabler (fun fact: Cam Newton was the last Auburn QB in 2015), we asked the question:
How many players from Alabama colleges are on the Eagles and Chiefs rosters for the big game?
Here is what we discovered.
8 Former College Players from Alabama On All Rosters
Examining the rosters, including injured reserve, 7 Eagles played their collegiate ball at Alabama schools, while only one player from the state is on the Chiefs roster.
Here is the list:
Philadelphia Eagles
James Bradbury – A Samford University Bulldogs star, Bradbury is the most experienced player on our list concluding his 7th season in the NFL. He has 39 solo tackles and 3 interceptions during the 2022-23 season. He also graduated from Pleasant Grove High School near Birmingham.
Landon Dickerson – The last time Alabama fans saw Dickerson in a Tide uniform he was lifting Coach Saban off his feet after the team won the 2021 National Championship. A first time All-Pro this year, Dickerson plays guard.
Jack Driscoll – Auburn Tiger stalwart, Driscoll has played in every game this year for the Eagles as a guard/tackle.
Jalen Hurts – One of the fiercest debates on social media this fall has been β who has a right to claim Jalen Hurts β Bama or the Sooners? And that debate will become all the more serious if the league MVP candidate becomes the 4th Tide QB to win the Super Bowl.
Josh Jobe – Despite going undrafted in 2022, the Crimson Tide Jobe made the Eagles roster as rookie cornerback. He has appeared in 11 games this season.
Devonta Smith – Alabamaβs third Heisman trophy winner, Smith has had very solid two seasons with the Eagles since leaving the Capstone. wide receiver from Alabama. In fact, his 95 catches this season set an Eagles Wide Receiver record for most catches.
Arryn Siposs – Auburnβs first ever Australian punter, Siposs was averaging over 45 yards a punt up until he was injured in the 14th game of the 2022 season. He is currently on the injured reserve.
Kansas City Chiefs
Surprisingly, the AFC Champion Kanas City Chief has only one player for an Alabama school.
Prince Tega Wanogho – An offensive lineman from Auburn University, Nigerian Tega Wanogho has played in every game this season on special teams.
2 Former Alabama High School Players
With so many Alabama-based players from the college ranks, it begs the questionβare any former high school players playing in the upcoming Super Bowl? The answer is YES!
They are:
Reed Blankenship – West Limestone
Quez Watkins – Athens High School
Likely a first in Alabama sports history, both players are from the same countyβLimestone County in North Alabama.
Game on February 12th
This yearβs Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, February 12th, 5:30PM on Fox. For the first time in a while the two top seeds of each conference reached the big game.
