Strawberry season in Alabama begins from early March and usually runs to early June. The peak season is in April and is when you’ll find the ripest, juiciest strawberries to pick right from the vine. Make sure to head out early, since the best time of day to pick is in the morning, when the strawberries are fresh and cool.

If you’re looking to enjoy the warm weather and grab some sweet strawberries, check out these 12 u-pick farms around Alabama. You’ll be berry satisfied!

Sylacauga – Four Mile Farms Produce

Head over to Talladega and check Pete Baker’s Four Mile Farms. Baker got his passion for farming at an early age but worked as a full-time construction associate until he transitioned to farming.

Sylacauga offers some of the freshest produce such as:

Verbena – Sugar Hill U-Pick Farms

Sugar Hill U-Pick Farms has been around for more than a decade and has some great strawberries to choose from, available for both U-pick and pre-picked. They also have peaches, tomatoes, potatoes, corn and more available.

Clanton – Sunshine Farms U-Pick Strawberry Field

Sunshine Farms has been in operation for over thirty years and has produced strawberries since the early 1950s.

They also love giving back to the community and is a proud participant in the Farm to School program, which connects schools with local farms, providing students with access to fresh, healthy foods and supporting farms by creating new markets.

Montgomery – Handey’s Farm

Family-owned and operated in Montgomery, Handey’s offers daily strawberry picking and other fresh fruits and veggies. You can also see some cool events happening around the area, such as the Alabama Wagon Train that stops near the farm occasionally!

Grant – Maggie Valley Berry Patch

As of this March, husband and wife duo Nathaniel and Stephanie Guffey are continuing the legacy of David and Maggie Cox, founders of Maggie Valley Berry Patch by providing high quality strawberries to be picked this season.

Looking for some spices? Maggie Valley also specializes in various ghost and habanero peppers.

Centre – Rocky Hollow Patch at Angel Farm

This strawberry patch is right on the line between Georgia and Alabama and strives to give customers the best of both worlds. You can pick some fresh strawberries all season long and wander around the farm for beautiful sights and sounds.

Bonus: Rocky Hollow Patch at Angel Farm serves as a venue and also hosts special events throughout the year.

Holly Pond – Five Oak Farm and Kitchen

You won’t want to miss the cozy, small feel farm that specializes in fruits, greens and baked goods.

Dothan – Aplin Farms

Aplin Farms is a four generation family farm located between Slocomb and Dothan and produces almost 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables. Have a craving for somer good, old-fashioned strawberry shortcake? Make sure to grab some locally sourced ingredients while you’re there!

Vincent – DeLoach Farms

Come visit Shelby County’s only Bicentennial Farm! U-pick strawberries are available in the spring & u-pick sunflowers and fresh produce are available in the summer.
