15 ways to celebrate Juneteenth across Alabama
Juneteenth, now in its third year as a federal holiday, commemorates the end of slavery in the US. There are several events taking place across the state to celebrate the day, either on June 17 or on various dates throughout the month. Read on to plan ahead for these events.
1. Juneteenth: From Freedom to Liberation | Mobile | June 15 + June 19
The City of Mobile is hosting a series of events, including a speaker and panel on Thursday, June 15 and a celebratory performance on Monday, June 19.

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is hosting a day full of art-making, celebration and meaningful exhibits. There’ll be a Second Line-style processional parade (participation encouraged!), art-making activities, live music and even free snacks and strawberry lemonade on a first come, first serve basis.
