2 UA projects among new high-dollar building permits

More than two dozen building permits were issued across Alabama this past week for construction projects exceeding $1 million. These projects are mostly concentrated in Huntsville and Birmingham, but two major projects–with pricey permits–are for the University of Alabama campus.

Two University of Alabama projects were issued building permits this past week.

A $54 million permit was issued for the ongoing renovations and additions to the Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility. The project has included adding 96 new patient beds in a two-story addition and updating the facility throughout.

Renovation of the existing facility will take place in multiple phases. This renovation will provide updates for patients and staff bringing the facility up to current requirements.

A $2.8 million project was approved for the The AIME renovations for the AMP Battery Research Center. The project involves the renovation of approximately 6,000 square feet within the Alabama Innovation & Mentoring of Entrepreneurs Building.

This project will create a state-of-the-art facility featuring a new pilot line laboratory for pouch. prismatic, and cylindrical cell production. Also, the renovated space will include dedicated areas for materials and chemical receiving, and office and storage spaces to support research activities.
