On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger enforced the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. This meant about 4 million slaves were finally set free.

Now, every June 19, we celebrate what is known as ‘Juneteenth,’ a holiday commemorating an emblem of freedom and a significant event in American history.
