The 2025 NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship is moving to Gulf Shores because of the wildfires in Los Angeles.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be played in Huntington Beach, California on May 2-4. The dates of the upcoming competition have not changed.

“In light of the ongoing recovery efforts approximately 50 miles up north in Los Angeles County, our focus is currently on ensuring hotel rooms and other resources remain focused on supporting those in need.”

Anthony Brenneman, Executive Director, Orange County Sports Commission

Hosted by UAB and Gulf Shores since 2016

Gulf Shores and UAB have hosted the Beach Volleyball championship since its inception in 2016. This year for the first time the tournament was going to be held outside of Alabama in California.

In addition to the 2025 current venue change, last month, it was announced that the NCAA  Beach Volleyball Championship would be held in Gulf Shores from 2027 to 2031 thanks to numerous capital improvements including:

  • Addition of spectator stadium seating
  • Increased hospitality space
  • Upgrades to the television compound

Alabama Beaches Sports & Events, the local organizing committee, has also committed to enhancing marketing resources and elevating the student-athlete experience.

“When we were approached about this opportunity, we felt confident that we could provide a similar championship experience as in past years. Our community is excited to have the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship return to Gulf Shores.”

Beth Gendler, president and CEO of Alabama’s Beaches Sports & Events

Ticket on sale soon

According to a NCAA news release, despite this year’s setback Huntington Beach is still scheduled to host the 2026 championship.

Tickets for the 2025 championship are expected to be available soon.
