Gov. Kay Ivey announce the funds earlier this month. The money will be used to make various on-road and off-road improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized forms of transportation.

“For a growing number of Alabamians who walk or use bicycles for health and recreation or to travel to work or school, the safety of their travel routes is an important concern. Therefore, I am pleased to join ALDOT in announcing this significant grant to build and enhance sidewalks and walking spaces in more than 30 communities, large and small, spanning the length of our state.”

~ Gov. Kay Ivey

Of the 31 projects, 18 of them are receiving $800,000 worth of federal funds. You can see the full list below.

The Transportation Alternatives Program is a federally-funded program administered by ALDOT. Various projects such as bike and pedestrian mobility, streetscaping and other non-traditional transportation improvements are eligible for TAP funds.
