Thousands of drivers are already benefiting from the Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) project to widen I-10 to six lanes for an additional five miles.
Keep reading to see the details on the $24.8 million project + see exactly where the extra lanes were put in.
Six lanes wide
This major project added a third lane in both the eastbound and westbound directions between Carol Plantation Road and McDonald Road. The extra lanes are designed to improve traffic flow and increase safety along this crucial corridor.
Funded through the Rebuild Alabama Act, the project is meant to address the high traffic demands of a stretch that sees about 65,000 vehicles daily. The hope is the additional lanes will ease congestion and reduce travel times, especially during peak hours.
“This project represents a critical investment in our transportation infrastructure. The widened I-10 will enhance connectivity, promote economic growth, and improve quality of life.”
~ ALDOT Southwest Region spokesperson James Gordon
