Big news for Montgomery! Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) recently announced they’re making a huge—$290 million huge—investment in their Montgomery plant. Here’s what you need to know.

The $290M will go toward new + improved Santa Fe cars

This $290 million investment by HMMA is split up into two main parts.

  • $190 million will go toward retooling + upgrading the Montgomery Hyundai facility for next generation of Sante Fe sport utility vehicles.
  • $100 million will go toward continuing Tucson SUV + Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle production.

Assembly on the new-and-improved Santa Fe vehicles is set to begin later this year. The new model will feature:

  • Striking exterior design
  • Sustainable materials for the interior design
  • High-tech features such as a 12.3-inch panoramic curved display

On a whole, this new investment adds even more spark to Montgomery’s economy, as HMMA has for years.

Hyundai is a “vital economic engine” for Montgomery + Alabama

According to a release from Made in Alabama, Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed said HMMA is a “vital economic engine” for both Montgomery and Alabama.

“From building world-class products to creating jobs and opportunity here in Montgomery, HMMA is a catalyst for the continued growth and development of our region.”

This development comes on the heels of other big Montgomery Hyundai developments, including the addition of two new electric vehicles to their production lineup.

When the new $290 million project is complete, $3.3 billion will have been invested in the Montgomery HMMA plant in total, as Montgomery Chamber Chairman LaBarron Boone reported to Made in Alabama. It seems Hyundai is a driving force in Alabama’s capital.
