3 GameStop locations closing in Alabama this week

Three Alabama GameStop locations will close this week after the game retail company announced a slew of closures across the country.

The locations that will close in Alabama are:

Alabama’s three closures are among more than 160 GameStop locations that are closing up shop this month, according to a crowdsourced list.

GameStop’s website indicates that each of the three stores’ last day in operation is today, Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Previous GameStop closures in Alabama

The chain also closed hundreds of locations in previous years while facing financial struggles.

In 2025, nine stores closed:

  • Birmingham — 2239 Bessemer Road
  • Birmingham — 1632 Montclair Boulevard
  • Dothan — 3255 South Oates Street
  • Leeds — 8525 Whitfield Avenue
  • Montgomery — 921 Ann Street
  • Montgomery — 6655 Atlanta Highway
  • Oxford — 254 Oxford Exchange Boulevard
  • Semmes — 7941 Moffett Road
  • Sylacauga — 41176 Highway 280

In 2024, three closed:

  • Homewood — 437 Green Springs Highway
  • Huntsville — 11700 Memorial Parkway
  • Muscle Shoals — 519 Avalon Avenue #2728
