Tired of working from home? Try working from the park! The City of Mobile is providing free WiFi at two parks downtown, Bienville Square and Cathedral Square. Let’s take a look at the WiFi deal itself, and some fun ways to enjoy it while hanging out downtown!

More on the free WiFi

The free WiFi is in two parks: Bienville Square and Cathedral Square Park. The free WiFi was first announced in 2014 in a statement by the City. In a Facebook Post yesterday, the City reported that Cathedral Park has “newly installed public WiFi”.

Cathedral Square is bordered by Dauphin Street, Claiborne Street, Conti Street, and S Jackson Street. Bienville Square is bordered by Dauphin Street, N Conception Street, Conti Street, and St Joseph Street. Here’s a map for ease!

Let’s take a look at how you can make the best of this free service.

1. Take your lunch at the park

Fall weather in Alabama is a hot commodity, so take your lunch outside while the weather still permits. Here are some restaurants around both parks where you can take your lunch to-go and watch your favorite show or movie while enjoying your meal in either park.

2. Check out a market in the park!

Another great way to take advantage of the free WiFi is to use it while at weekend markets and events downtown. Crowded areas are known for causing drops in service, making the free WiFi all the more advantageous for these events.

Both parks are technically in the LoDa Arts District, making them awesome stops for LoDa Art Walk, held on the first Friday of every month. The monthly event is full of music, fun, and is usually themed somehow.

Check out the Mobile Arts Council website to see all the Art Walk dates and information.

You can also check out the Market in the Park, held in Cathedral Square on Saturdays from 7:30 until noon. You’ll find all sorts of artesian goodies, fresh veggies, jams and jellies, and much more. This is actually where I prefer to buy my vegetables every week, so it’s got my stamp of approval!

Check out the Market in the Park Facebook page for more information.

3. Just enjoying your time at the park!

Lots of us have been working from home for a while now. So, instead of sitting in that same spot everyday to finish up the day’s work, why not take it to a park outside? You’ll have all the health benefits of being outside, with the added benefit of getting some work done in the process! Check out this piece we’ve done to see where you can get coffee while you work downtown!
