$350M beach resort proposed in Northport [PHOTOS]

While there is still a long way to go before an official groundbreaking in Northport, there has been plenty of excitement about the latest renderings for the University Beach Resort.
The proposed resort would sit on roughly 77 acres of land near the Tuscaloosa National Airport. It is projected to cost $350 million + could include:
- 10-acre lagoon
- Water park
- Event center
- Residential homes
- Retail
- Dining

The city has most recently held meetings on rezoning the land but questions still remain.
Last month, the city gave the developers more conditions for the project. According to the Tuscaloosa News, those conditions include:
- Implementation of 6-foot-wide sidewalks on public rights of way
- Capping the number of multi-family units at 275
- Prohibition of businesses including:
- Motels
- Nursery wholesale
- Self-storage (climate-controlled)
- Mini-warehouse
- Alternative financial services
- Auto repair/sales
- Agricultural support
- Building material sales
- Construction services
- Funeral homes
- Heavy equipment sales
- Home improvement services
- Laundromats
- Maintenance services
- Medical cannabis dispensing
- Tattoo shops
- Recycling centers
- Substance abuse treatment centers
