Allstate has released its latest Best Drivers list for the 200 most populous cities in America and Alabama has four cities ranked in the top 65 but all of them have fallen since Allstate’s rankings 10 years ago.

The four Alabama cities on the list along with their current + previous rankings include:

  • Huntsville – 2025: 12 | 2015: 9
  • Birmingham – 2025: 55 | 2015: 20
  • Montgomery– 2025: 61 | 2015: 13
  • Mobile – 2025: 65 | 2015: 25

It’s quite a drop from having all four cities rank in the top 25 just a decade ago. Still, the study found Alabama to be one of the safer states to drive in, especially compared to the northeast and the west coast.

Huntsville remains state’s safest city for drivers

While the rankings have changed over the years, one constant has been Huntsville near the top of the list. The Rocket City was as high as No. 3 on the national list back in 2019.

To no surprise, the more the city grows, the more traffic is on the road which raises the likelihood of a collision. Still, Huntsville drivers have an 11.8% less chance of being involved in a crash compared to the national average.

Alabama’s other three cities on the list fall just above the national average risk.

  • Birmingham: +3.1%
  • Montgomery: +4.4%
  • Mobile: +5.6%

The study uses average time between collisions for drivers that use Allstate. Topping the list is the city of Brownsville, Texas which reportedly has an average of 14.24 years between collisions.

Drivers in all four of Alabama’s cities average at least a decade between collisions, according to the report.

Huntsville leads the way with an average of 11.97 years. Birmingham sits at 10.24, Montgomery at 10.11 and Mobile right at 10.
