Four Alabama Winn-Dixie stores are slated to close between late April and mid-May.

In a statement given to Bham Now from Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie, the company plans to shutter the following stores:

  • Mobile: 6300 Grelot Road
  • Mobile: 5440 Hwy 90 West in Mobile
  • Phenix City: 3952 US Hwy 80 in Phenix City
  • Vestavia Hills: 3925 Crosshaven Drive in Vestavia Hills

Not part of Winn Dixie-ALDI conversion or larger trend of store closures

The four stores are not part of the Winn-Dixie -ALDI conversion plans. In the past year, eight Winn Dixie locations statewide have been converted.

Below is the company’s statement about the closures

“…These closures are anticipated between late April and mid-May. While this is not a part of ALDI’s conversion plans or the beginning of a larger trend of store closures, the decision aligns with our ongoing efforts to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of our business.

We recognize the impact this decision has on our associates, and we are fully committed to supporting them through this transition. All affected associates who are eligible and wish to continue their careers with us will be given the opportunity to apply to transfer to open positions at neighboring stores. Those who do not elect to transfer to another Winn-Dixie location will receive severance as they transition from the company.

Our focus remains on ensuring the long-term success of our business and continuing to provide the high level of quality and service our customers expect and deserve. We will work through this process with care, and we are grateful for the support and understanding of our valued associates, customers and communities.”

In 2023, popular German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chain ALDI acquired roughly 400 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket locations across the Southeast from Southeastern Grocers.

Presently, there are 33 Winn-Dixie stores in Alabama.
