Alabama is no stranger to movie sets but did you know several holiday movies were filmed right here in our state? From Birmingham to North Alabama these films use familiar locations that make seasonal watching even more fun.
Whether you are planning a cozy movie night or love spotting familiar places on screen here are five holiday films with Alabama ties and where you can watch them today.
Almost Christmas (2016)

- About the movie:
- This holiday comedy follows the Meyers family as they gather for their first Christmas without their matriarch. The film features several Birmingham neighborhoods and landmarks and remains one of the largest holiday productions ever shot in Alabama.

Just In Time for the Holidays (2023)

- Dolomite
- About the movie:
- Directed by Birmingham native Ayanna Shon this heartfelt film was shot in Dolomite and across the Birmingham area with strong involvement from local cast and crew. It follows a recently divorced father of three who is navigating work, grief and family life during the holidays.

- Just In Time For The Holidays is free on Tubi and available to rent or buy on Amazon Video, Vudu, and Apple TV.

Kangaroo Christmas (2025)

- About the movie:
- This upcoming family film tells the story of a young kangaroo who brings hope back to a grieving Alabama family. Shot around downtown Athens the movie features recognizable local spots like the Limestone County Courthouse Square and the Athens Farmers Market.
- Where to watch:
- Kangaroo Christmas has not released streaming details yet. Filming wrapped in late 2025 so keep an eye on major holiday movie channels and streaming platforms as the season gets closer.

One Christmas (1994)

- About the movie:
- Based on Truman Capote’s short story, this classic follows young Buddy as he spends Christmas with his estranged father. Several scenes were filmed in Central Alabama which helped ground the story in the Southern setting that shaped Capote’s childhood. This film is also known for being Katharine Hepburn’s final screen performance.

A Christmas Memory (1966)

- About the movie:
- This Emmy winning adaptation of Truman Capote’s beloved holiday story centers on the friendship between a young boy and his cousin as they prepare for Christmas. The production filmed in Mobile using real homes and streets to recreate the Southern setting inspired by Capote’s childhood in Monroeville.

- You can stream A Christmas Memory on Amazon Prime Video, The Roku Channel, and Shout Factory TV. Digital rentals are available on Apple TV and YouTube and the DVD is sold on Amazon.
