The secret’s out… fall is the ultimate time to hit the beach for a cool-weather getaway. Don’t believe us? Here are five reasons beach bums in Bama are packing their bags for a fall escape in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
1. There are no crowds
“It’s too peopley outside.”
This may just sum up my vibe perfectly. You feel me?
This is another reason why visiting the beach during fall is so spectacular—there are no crowds. This means:
- Beaches are nearly empty. No need to fight a Karen for sweet and sandy spot, or have to walk a mile in search of one.
- No lines. You can actually venture out and about to restaurants and attractions at a set time.
- No traffic. You won’t run the risk of Hulking out behind the wheel and making your family and friends groan in embarrassment.

2. You’ll save some dough
Beach prices soar during the summer months, and if you’re like me, it can quickly turn your vacation into a sand bucket full of worry. Vacations are supposed to relieve stress, not cause it, which is why a fall beach escape is where it’s at.
Fall is basically the coupon version of beach vacations with low prices on hotels and more. My suggestion: throw your money woes out to sea and head to the beach this fall.
Bonus: Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is just a few-hour drive for most in Alabama, which means less gas money spent driving to other destinations.

3. Beaches are a treasure trove
Don’t love the rain fall often brings? I feel ya. But you may change your mind when you see the beaches chock-full of buried treasure.
Fall storms lead to more seashells, driftwood and sea glass being pushed to the shore. So, if you dig a good treasure hunt, head to beaches in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach this fall for never-ending finds.
Psst! We know all the top spots in the area to investigate. Grab your bucket and head here.
4. It’s cooler… need I say more?
Summer may be prime time for scoring your fill of vitamin D, but the sun is still out and about in fall, y’all. So yes, you can still get your tan on and rock that summer glow year-round.
Not only that, but the cooler weather means you won’t be in a continuous sweat outdoors. While the ocean and hotel pools may be a fave pastime during a trip to the beach, the fall seasons gives you the opportunity to discover other things you’ll love.
I always want to rent a bike and explore during a visit to the beach, but summer heat always makes it an unbearable activity. Not in fall. Biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, golfing… whatever outdoor activity you love, fall is the ideal time to do it.
5. There are new things to experience
Fall is an exciting time for events—especially October with Halloween at the end of the month. But with the same events taking place year after year, you’re likely in need of something new to do. I sure am.
One place to go for some fall-inspired fun—the Gulf Coast Zoo. They’ll be hosting Boo at the Zoo on October 23, and it’ll be filled with family-friendly haunts and lots of candy. Info and tickets here.
