Juneteenth is a state + federal holiday on June 19 to celebrate the end of slavery in the United States.
While the holiday has been celebrated for decades, more and more celebrations pop up each year. Our state is no exception to that with several events being held across Alabama this weekend.

EJI Legacy Sites + Juneteenth Concert in Montgomery
- What: The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) is opening all of its Montgomery historical and cultural spaces for free on June 19, allowing visitors to experience American history and reflect on the journey toward racial justice.

Juneteenth Jubilee at the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham
- What: Free admission to the Civil Rights Institute, free tours of 16th Street Baptist Church and AG Gaston Motel Gallery. Stay later for a community block party with food, music, local vendors, face painting, a kids’ zone, line dancing + more.

East-West Classic at Rickwood Field in Birmingham
