Boulangerie’s baking classes are offered on Sundays at 3PM, 5PM and 7PM by appointment. Because the classes take place after they close regular business for the day, the bakery provides cooking class members with coffee, drinks and any leftover pastries.

Two types of classes are offered: non-alcoholic, which is $75 per person, and alcoholic, which includes unlimited alcohol and is $100 per person.

The cake decorating classes are taught by the owner, Jessica Rizzo, and the cake pop classes are taught by a bakery employee.

“Not only do they take home the cake they made, they take home all the tools—so their spinning table, their piping tips, their spatula. Everything that we use to decorate the cake is included in the price.”

In addition to Boulangerie’s classes, the bakery offers a picturesque place for everything from tea parties with a cake princess to bachelorette parties. For private parties after business hours, Boulangerie’s space doesn’t have to be rented as long as food and drinks are bought. For the bakery to close during business hours, a small fee must be paid.

Jessica Rizzo had known she wanted to own a bakery for a while.

After Rizzo and her family moved from Florida to Auburn during the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to open Boulangerie. While Rizzo certainly loves the coffee shop and walk-ins, her favorite part of the business is making custom cakes for events.

“I love doing all the stuff and doing the cakes for anybody’s event, because being a part of their memory, doing something that people are going to remember and that is going to be special to them, makes me happy.”

~ Jessica Rizzo, owner of Boulangerie

Rizzo’s favorite memory at Boulangerie so far was getting to experience Auburn’s Mardi Gras parade. The bakery had made king cakes and mini king cakes, and Rizzo says that there were so many customers, she couldn’t make king cakes fast enough.

“It was exactly what you need when you first open a business. Because you always ask yourself when you’re opening something like, ‘Is this relevant? Do people want this? Is this going to matter? Like, am I making a mistake?’ And so that being like, the first big event downtown when they opened, and it going so well and getting so much positive feedback, just made me feel like I made a good decision in opening. That was wonderful, and it was only a little stressful.”

For coffee-lovers with a sweet tooth, try Boulangerie’s brown butter toffee iced coffee. (Ella Walton / The Bama Buzz)

Boulangerie offers $1 off their monthly specials; October’s specials are “The Chocolate Pumpkin Bread,” a latte with chocolate, pumpkin and shortbread, and “The S’more,” a latte including toasted marshmallow, dark chocolate and cinnamon vanilla. We personally recommend trying their brown better toffee iced coffee with one of their brookies, which is brownie batter mixed with their brown butter chocolate chip cookie batter.
