Alabama, Auburn gymnastics hosting top-10 opponents this weekend

College gymnastics season is officially underway and as usual, there are high expectations for our in-state SEC teams.
Both Alabama and Auburn will be at home this week, bringing some of the top competition from the conference and across the country to town.
The Crimson Tide, which rose to No. 3 in the most recent rankings, hosts No. 7 Missouri at Coleman Coliseum for Alabama’s home opener Friday night. Plus, No. 11 Auburn will host the top-ranked Florida Gators.

No. 7 Missouri at No. 3 Alabama

The Crimson Tide has started 1-1 this season with both meets coming on the road. Alabama has posted two scores above 197 including a 197.275 at No. 1 Florida last week.
Alabama moved up to No. 3 in the College Gymnastics Association’s most recent rankings which is based on average all-around team score.
Meanwhile, Missouri is officially 4-1, suffering its first loss last week to No. 2 Oklahoma. The Tigers average score this season is 197.017, just over three-tenths lower than Alabama’s.

No. 1 Florida at No. 11 Auburn

The Tigers fell five spots in the latest rankings after posting a season-low 196.075 at Arkansas last weekend. However, the last time Auburn performed inside Neville Arena, the team scored 197.150.
The hosts will need another big performance Friday night with top-ranked Florida coming to The Plains. The Gators average score is 197.575 but this will be their first time on the road this season.
