Alabama baseball makes big jump in rankings after sweeping Auburn

Auburn entered the weekend series in Tuscaloosa as the top-ranked team in the RPI and as a top-10 team in every college baseball ranking system.

But it was the Crimson Tide that looked like the more dominant team, sweeping the Tigers for the first time since 2017.

With those wins, Alabama make a big jump in the rankings this week and has put itself in the conversation as a national seed for the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama baseball

Alabama is now 23-7 overall, riding an 8-game winning streak which includes two straight sweeps in SEC play. That run has pushed the Tide into the national spotlight, making big jumps in this week’s rankings.

Here’s where Alabama sits ahead of the weekend series at Oklahoma:

The Crimson Tide currently sits in fourth in the SEC standings, just one game off the leaders. Alabama’s next three series come against ranked opponents including:

  • at Oklahoma
  • Arkansas
  • at Texas

Auburn baseball

The Tigers have fallen to 20-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play after losing six of their last eight games, all the losses coming against ranked teams.

While Auburn rose all the way to the top spot in the RPI last week, the Tigers have taken a tumble in the polls this week. Here’s where they currently sit as of April 1:

The Tigers remain ahead of their rivals in the USA Today rankings, which comes from coaches across the country. Auburn’s strength of schedule + record also has them firmly in the top 5 of the RPI still.

Auburn’s next five series come against teams either tied or ahead of them in the conference standings including:

  • Arkansas
  • Kentucky
  • at Florida
  • Oklahoma
  • at Texas A&M
