You might see a new beer on the shelves of your local grocery stores next month.

The Alabama Beer Company has officially launched its first drink—the Alabama Light Lager. It officially became available on draft at select restaurants and bars across the state on Nov. 18 with cans expected to be available in December.

Keep reading to find out more about the company’s first beer + see how they work with the DRIFT initiative for statewide water conservation.

Alabama Light Lager

Owners and partners Stephen Gann, Michael Clarke and Shannon Clarke officially introduced themselves and their new beer on social media earlier this week.

Today, we proudly launch Alabama Beer Co. Over the past year, this team has worked hard to bring you a clean, crisp, light, and affordable lager that celebrates the state we call home.

This is more than just beer—it’s about coming together, giving back to Alabama, and toasting to the good times with friends.

The Alabama Light Lager contains just three simple ingredients: hops, barley + water. The beer has a 4.2% ABV, or alcohol by volume.

While you can currently find it on draft, it will also soon be available in two different cans.

  • Alabama Tall Boy: Protector of the land—16-ounce cans sold in a 4 pack

“We wanted to really bring Alabama something similar to what Lonestar is to Texas, what Rainier is to the pacific northwest. To do a local, craft light lager that can actually compete with domestic prices.”

Defending River Integrity For Tomorrow (DRIFT)

The company is going beyond just making beer, working for conservation through its own DRIFT initiative.

“Our brewmaster kept talking about the water and how Alabama is one of the top states to brew lagers in because of the minerality of the water so we had the idea. If water is so important, we need to protect it.”

~ Stephen Gann

The initiative is partnering with:

That committee will decide which projects receive DRIFT funds and how much.

A portion of every single can and every single pint goes toward a DRIFT fund that can be live tracked on the website. Those funds then go toward different conservation projects.

The company will be taking applications for projects asking for funds, serving as a temporary relief needed while waiting on government funds for many projects. The goal is to help out a variety of programs across the state dealing with protecting water for drinking, protecting fish + wildlife, water recreation and more.

“This program supports water conservation efforts across the state by donating a portion from every beer sold to a fund that provides emergency grants to organizations focused on maintaining and restoring our rivers and lakes. By preserving these vital waterways, we protect Alabama’s natural beauty, ensure clean water for our brewing process, and contribute to the well-being of our community.”
