Alabama extends AP Poll streak despite loss to Tennessee
Reading time: 3 minutes

Alabama men’s basketball team suffered its second home loss to an unranked team, putting the Crimson Tide in risk of falling out of the Associated Press top 25 for the first time since 2023.
But the voters kept Alabama in the rankings for a 42nd consecutive poll, extending the second longest streak in program history. It’s also the fifth longest active streak in the country behind Houston, Purdue, Duke and Iowa State.
Alabama, which sits at 13-6 overall, came in at No. 23 in Monday’s rankings. It is one of just two ranked teams (Florida) with at least six losses.
Auburn also received votes after three straight wins including beating No. 16 Florida in Gainesville for the first time since 1996.
Keep reading to see more about the men’s AP Top 25 + this week’s schedule for both the Tide and Tigers.
Alabama men’s basketball
Alabama’s loss to Tennessee on Saturday was the team’s second to an unranked opponent but the Tide’s resume still includes 4 Quad 1 wins + 4 Quad 2 wins. Their other losses this season have been to No. 1 Arizona, No. 6 Gonzaga, No. 12 Purdue and No. 18 Vanderbilt.
So it’s easy to see why the Tide remains in the rankings for now but there is no room for error if they want to extend their AP Poll streak.
Since Nate Oats took over in 2019, Alabama has been ranked 87 times. Between 2012 and 2019, the Tide was ranked in just two polls.
Alabama will look to bounce back this week with two more SEC matchups including:
- vs. Missouri, Tuesday, 7PM, SEC Network
- at No. 19 Florida, Sunday, 12PM, ABC
Auburn men’s basketball
The Tigers have seemingly turned a corner in Steven Pearl’s first season.
Auburn received votes in this week’s AP Poll, appearing as the sixth team just outside the top 25. The Tigers have not been ranked since the Dec. 15 poll prior to the start of SEC play.
But now, Auburn has won three straight games, matching its longest winning streak of the season. They’ll have a chance to get back into the top 25 with three home games over the next two weeks including two of them against ranked teams.
This week’s schedule for the Tigers includes:
- vs. Texas, Wednesday, 6PM, ESPN2
- at Tennessee, Saturday, 7:30PM, ESPN
