Alabama gas prices surge over $4 per gallon for the first time since 2022

For the first time in nearly four years, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Alabama has surpassed the $4 mark.
While our state still remains below the national average, gas prices continue to rise. Here’s a look at the numbers according to AAA as of May 5:
- Regular: $4.006
- Mid-Grade: $4.447
- Premium: $4.853
- Diesel: $5.259
The average price for a gallon of regular gas has risen by more than 20 cents in the last week and is nearly $1. 30 higher than it was in May 2025.
Gas prices in Alabama

Gas prices have been on a steady climb since the start of 2026. The national average and the Alabama average is now at its highest since July 2022.
Alabama hit its highest ever average price in June 2022, reaching $4.632 for a gallon of regular gas.
