A new study from golf apparel brand Galvin Green recently analyzed over 11,000 golf courses from across the U.S., determining the most beginner-friendly courses in the country.
And one Alabama course is on the list.
The Magnolia course at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highland Oaks in Dothan comes in second in the rankings, just behind Georgia’s Cedar Valley Golf Course.
“Many beginners get discouraged playing on courses that can be too difficult for them, so these top-ranked beginner courses provide the perfect starting point to develop skills and enjoy the sport from day one.”

The Magnolia course officially has a slope rating of 37, making it the second best for beginners.
It’s one of three 9-hole courses available to play at Highland Oaks as well as a short course.
“Appropriately named, Magnolia trees frame the holes on its namesake nine. Easier than the Highlands, the Magnolia has water in play on just one hole, offers wide landing areas and features large undulating greens.”

The research analyzed slope ratings for 11,738 golf courses across the U.S. to determine which offer the most approachable experience for golf beginners.
Slope rating is part of the World Handicap System and measures the relative difficulty of a course for high-handicap golfers compared to scratch players, with the lower numbers indicating the easier courses.
