The 2025 Masters Tournament is underway at Augusta National. The first round provided beautiful weather with thousands of fans flocking to Georgia to enjoy the biggest golf tournament of the year.

Several golfers in the competition have ties to the state of Alabama and some of them should be in the mix over the weekend after half the field gets cut.

You can watch the tournament on ESPN + CBS with the final round expected to wrap up around 6PM Sunday.

The 2025 Masters

The Masters is considered the most exclusive major of the year for men’s golf but there are still several Alabama golfers competing this week.

Three of them played collegiate golf in Tuscaloosa including:

  • Nick Dunlap
  • Davis Riley
  • Justin Thomas

Thomas already has two majors to his name, winning the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2022, but his best finish in Augusta was 4th place in 2020. On Thursday, Thomas shot 1-over 73 after getting birdies on two of the final three holes.

Davis Riley also finished 1-over after the first round. Dunlap, a Huntsville native, was hoping to make the cut in a major for the first time but he struggled on the first day, shooting a 18-over 90.

Patton Kizzire grew up in Tuscaloosa but spent his college playing days at Auburn. He finished the first round 7-over par and will need a strong second day to have a chance at playing the weekend.

Auburn native Davis Thompson had the best first day of the group, finishing 1-under in his debut at The Masters.
