Alabama is most-watched college football team so far this season

The SEC has long been the best draw across college football. That has shown up through talent, championships and of course, TV ratings.

It has been no different this year with seven of the 10 most-watched teams so far this season belonging to the SEC. That includes Alabama at the top of the list.

Most-viewed teams in college football

Here’s the Top 10 most-viewed teams prior to Week 9, according to Nielsen:

  1. Alabama – 7.92 million average viewers
  2. Tennessee – 7.80 million
  3. Georgia – 7.60 million
  4. Texas – 6.88 million
  5. Oklahoma – 6.29 million
  6. LSU – 6.14 million
  7. Ohio State – 6.11 million
  8. Miami – 5.60 million
  9. Florida – 5.15 million
  10. Notre Dame – 5.00 million

The Crimson Tide has had five games in the top 20 most-watched games this season. Six of the team’s first seven games were in the top 5 most-watched games of the week, not including this past weekend’s win over South Carolina.

Last season, Alabama had just four games finish in the top five of the week through the first 10 weeks of the season.

Here are the 10 most-watched games through Week 8 according to Nielsen:

  1. Texas at Ohio State – 16.6 million viewers
  2. Georgia at Tennessee – 12.6 million
  3. Notre Dame at Miami – 10.8 million
  4. Alabama at Florida State – 10.7 million
  5. LSU at Clemson – 10.45 million
  6. Alabama at Georgia – 10.42 million
  7. Ole Miss at Georgia – 9.8 million
  8. Michigan at Oklahoma – 9.7 million
  9. Oklahoma vs. Texas – 8.7 million
  10. Oregon at Penn State – 8.5 million

Alabama’s wins over Tennessee (8 million) and Vanderbilt (6.4 million) just missed the cut for the top 10.

Auburn’s most-watched game so far was against Georgia which peaked at 6.7 million viewers.

The SEC has been involved in the most watched game every week so far this season. That includes four times featuring an all-SEC matchup in the 2:30PM slot with Alabama-Georgia being the only all-SEC night game to be the most-watched game for the week,
