Alabama needed a fourth-quarter comeback to grab a win over Texas A&M on homecoming weekend in Tuscaloosa but that result was enough to get the Tide back in the top 10 of the Associated Press rankings.

After suffering consecutive losses, the Tide fell to No. 13 but a 31-20 win over the Aggies along with another chaotic week in college football has brought Kalen DeBoer’s team back to No. 10.

Saturday was Alabama’s final game before the season’s first College Football Playoff rankings are released on Nov. 3. That will be the first time the selection committee gives us a look at the projected 12-team bracket.

College football rankings

Alabama is in the AP Poll for the 304th consecutive week, a streak that dates back to 2008. The Crimson Tide is the highest-ranked two-loss team in the country with both defeats coming to teams currently ranked in the top 16.

The Tide has just one win over teams currently in the rankings, winning at No. 9 Kentucky in Week 2. That remains the Wildcats’ only defeat.

Alabama is one of nine SEC teams in this week’s poll including:

No. 3 Georgia
No. 9 Kentucky
No. 10 Alabama
No. 11 Texas
No. 12 Ole Miss
No. 15 LSU
No. 16 Tennessee
No. 17 Florida
No. 23 Missouri

The Crimson Tide is off this week before heading to Baton Rouge to take on another ranked opponent in LSU.

Three undefeated teams remain in the top 10 including No. 1 Miami which received 59 of 70 first-place votes. No. 6 Utah and No. 7 UCLA are also unbeaten through seven games.
