Grab some popcorn and head to the Capri Theatre in Montgomery, July 14-17 for They Cloned Tyrone—the highly-anticipated feature film directorial debut of Tuskegee native and Montgomery Public Schools, Juel Taylor. Did we mention Jamie Foxx (yes, that one!) is in the film? Read on for details.

About They Cloned Tyrone

According to a release from the Capri Theatre, They Cloned Tyrone is “a sci-fi comedy mystery film that follows an eerie series of events of an unlikely trio who uncover a government cloning conspiring. When a dope boy named Fontaine (Boyega) is abducted by a mysterious government organization, he wakes up to find that he has been cloned. Fontaine, along with his friend, Yo-Yo (Parris) and her pimp Slick Charles (Foxx), must team up to find out who is behind the cloning and why they chose Fontaine.”

Alabamians and the Capri Theatre aren’t the only ones excited about the film. According to the release, the movie has received praise from many big-time companies, including:

  • The Black Wall Street Times
  • Netflix—The streaming service releases the film globally on Friday, July 21.

Behind the film

Meet Juel Taylor, director, writer and producer of They Cloned Tyrone. A Tuskegee native and former student of Montgomery Public Schools, Taylor is becoming a big name in the film and entertainment biz.

Here are some fun facts about his time in Alabama:

  • He was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, receiving his elementary education at St. Joseph Catholic School.
  • He exhibited a passion for all forms of the arts at an early age.
  • After moving to Montgomery, he attended George Washington Carver Junior High School; he then attended L.A.M.P. Magnet High School, graduating with honors.

Following his education in Montgomery, Taylor went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on Film and Media studies from The University of Florida; he went on to receive his Master’s from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 2015.

What’s also cool is that Taylor landed one of just five NBC/Universal Studios fellowships—an applicant pool that included 1500.

In recent years, Taylor has continued to acrue an impressive resume involving various aspects of film production. Here’s a peek at some of his achievements:
