Alabama to host 5 NCAA championships in 2023, including March Madness

Cities all over the state are hosting some of the most exciting NCAA championships this year. Keep reading to learn which five championships are taking place in Alabama—from March Madness to beach volleyball.

1. March Madness

The countdown is on! After a 15 year hiatus, Birmingham is hosting the first and second round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at Legacy Arena March 16-18.

In addition to the Men’s tournament , the NCAA Women’s Southern Regional is slated for Legacy Arena in March 2025.

2. Beach Volleyball Championship

16 of the country’s best beach volleyball teams will battle it out on Alabama’s beaches in just a couple months. The event is open to the public and one you don’t want to miss out on.

Orange Beach Sports & Events, the city of Gulf Shores and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) have hosted the event since 2016 and will continue to host through 2024.

3. Indoor Track & Field Championships (DIII)

Basketball isn’t the only championship Birmingham will host this March. Both the men’s and women’s Division III Indoor Track & Field championships will take place in The Magic City.

4. Men’s Golf Regional

Auburn is set to host a men’s golf regional in 2023 as well as a women’s golf regional in 2024, both at the AU Club.

Auburn last hosted a women’s regional in 2019 and were scheduled to host a men’s regional in 2020 before the pandemic began. The Tigers have hosted NCAA regionals three times for the men’s team (1994, 2003, 2014) and women’s team (1996, 2013, 2019).

5. Cross Country Regional (DII)

The Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country South Regional will take place at the University of Montevallo this season. This will be the third time the school has hosted a NCAA cross country championship after hosting in 2014 and 2016.
