Alabama Public Television to broadcast live high school state football and basketball championships
Alabama Public Television (APT) announced today it will televise live statewide coverage of both the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) 2022 Super 7 Championships and the 2023 AHSAA State Basketball Championships’ 14 state girls’ and boys’ finals.
The new expanded coverage is made possible by a partnership with the NFHS Network, the digital leader in High School Sports.
“We are excited that APT and the NFHS Network will be partnering to expand the coverage, thus making available our Super 7 state championship games and State Basketball Finals to basically every household in the state thanks to APT’s presence and availability through cable, satellite and antenna TV,” said AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs in a statement announcing the far-reaching agreement that benefits the association’s member schools.
What to Expect
APT’s interim executive director Phil Hutcheson noted several public television stations that carry their state’s championship games are very popular.
“Georgia Public Broadcasting has the highest ratings for public television in the country when they present their coverage,” added Hutcheson.
Here is how the broadcast arrangement between APT and NFHS will work:
- APT will broadcast Alabama’s State High School Football Championships live from Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Wednesday, Nov. 30 – Friday, Dec. 2
- Digital viewing will be shown on the NFHS Network
- Recordings of the games will be available on-demand on APT’s website the week following the broadcast
As part of the agreement, APT also plans to televise the 2023 AHSAA Basketball State Championships’ 14 state boys’ and girls’ finals. The games will continue to be produced by WOTM TV with Vince Earley serving as executive producer.
