Thanks to mostly clear skies across the state, Alabamians were treated to a partial lunar eclipse display on Aug. 27.

The rare occurrence was nearly a total eclipse with 96% of the moon falling into Earth’s shadow, according to NASA. The best time to see it from Alabama was just after 11PM on Thursday, Aug. 27.

If you were lucky enough to witness it, you could likely see a red hue to the moon which is known as a “blood moon.” In total, the eclipse lasted roughly three and a half hours.

Remember the next partial lunar eclipse in Alabama is scheduled to appear on January 12, 2028.
