Alabama softball ranked No. 1 for first time since 2020

When the top-ranked team in the country came to Tuscaloosa over the weekend, the Alabama softball team knew it had an opportunity on the sport’s biggest stage.
The Crimson Tide took two of three games against previous-No. 1 Texas and the team has now taken over the top spot in two different rankings.
Softball America ranked Alabama at No. 1 this week, marking the first time Patrick Murphy’s team has been in the top spot of any poll since the 2020 preseason rankings.

College softball rankings
The Crimson Tide has steadily climbed up the rankings since the start of the season when it opened as No. 13 in Softball America’s preseason Top 25.
Alabama is now 35-3 overall with a 9-3 record in SEC play. Oklahoma still holds on to the top spot in the SEC standings but the Sooners sit at No. 3 in the Softball America rankings.
The Crimson Tide is in the top 5 of all major rankings including:
- Softball America: No. 1
- D1Softball: No. 3
- ESPN/USA Softball: No. 5
Alabama is also currently No. 1 in the RPI. The SEC has six of the top eight teams in the RPI as of April 7.

The Crimson Tide has won all four of its conference series so far this season with four more series to go in the regular season.
Only one team currently ranked remains on Alabama’s schedule. The final month includes:
- April 10-12: at Auburn
- April 17-19: Kentucky
- April 25-27: at No. 10 Tennessee
- April 30-May 2: South Carolina
