World Atlas recently featured 10 Southern small towns with unmatched friendliness and one River Region spot made the list.

And if you’ve ever made the trip through downtown Wetumpka, you know why.

World Atlas highlighted Wetumpka’s history and natural beauty, specifically the meteor impact crater. But the town has still made a name for itself through its present day people + places.

“There is a famous old jazz song called “Stars Fell on Alabama,” and in Wetumpka that is close to literal… With fewer than 8,000 people, Wetumpka is a place where you can get to know everyone downtown without going too far.”

Some of the places mentioned by WorldAtlas includes:

  • Coach’s Corner restaurant
  • Kelly Fitzpatrick Center for the Arts
  • Wetumpka Depot Players community theater
  • Coosa River Adventures
