After being just on the outside of the top 25 for the first two months of the season, Alabama women’s basketball team finally made the jump in Monday’s poll.

The Crimson Tide is No. 21 in the most recent Associated Press poll, making its first appearance of the season. Alabama has appeared in the USA Today Coaches Poll multiple times this season.

The move in the rankings comes days after Alabama’s win over No. 6 Kentucky. The Wildcats were the highest ranked team Alabama has beaten since 1997.

Last season, Alabama entered the AP rankings for the first time since 1999. The Tide reached as high as 18th in the poll before finishing at No. 20 in the final rankings.

The Tide has a big opportunity to climb the rankings this week with three more games before the next poll drops including:

  • Jan. 12: at Missouri
  • Jan. 15: at Auburn
  • Jan. 18: No. 20 Tennessee

Alabama’s win over Kentucky was its first ranked win of the season and 13th under coach Kristy Curry. There will be several more opportunities to add to that tally through the remainder of the conference slate which includes seven more teams who are currently ranked.

The SEC currently has nine teams ranked in the AP Top 25 including:

  • No. 2 South Carolina
  • No. 4 Texas
  • No. 5 Vanderbilt
  • No. 6 LSU
  • No. 7 Kentucky
  • No. 13 Oklahoma
  • No. 16 Ole Miss
  • No. 20 Tennessee
  • No. 21 Alabama
