Alabama women’s basketball ranked No. 24, helps SEC set AP Poll record
Reading time: 3 minutes

Alabama bounced back from consecutive rivalry losses with a home win over Mississippi State, helping the Crimson Tide stay just inside this week’s Associated Press top 25.
Kristy Curry’s squad is now 18-3 overall and 4-3 in SEC play with two of those losses coming to teams currently ranked in the top 15. Alabama came in at No. 24 this week, making its third straight appearance in the poll.
The Alabama women’s basketball team has been ranked in 22 polls over the last two seasons after not being ranked at all between 2000-2023. Last season, the Tide was in 14 consecutive polls, the third longest streak in program history (77 times from 1994-98).
Alabama got a week off before taking down Mississippi State at Coleman Coliseum on Sunday. That game included a career-high 28 points from Jessica Simmons + the return of Essence Cody from an injury that held her out of losses to Auburn and Tennessee.
But now, the Tide is set to begin its toughest stretch of the season starting with a pair of road games against ranked teams this week including:
- at No. 23 Georgia, Thursday, 5:30PM, SEC Network
- at No. 6 LSU, Sunday, 11AM, SEC Network
But playing ranked teams is something Tide fans will need to get used to for the rest of the season.
SEC women’s basketball
It was a historic AP Poll for the SEC this week as the conference placed 10 teams in the Top 25, the first conference to ever do that in women’s basketball. The SEC set the same record for men’s basketball just last season.
While the top spot still belongs to undefeated UConn, the SEC placed five teams in the top 10. Tennessee, who sits at the top of the SEC standings right now, is at No. 15 in the poll and will play at UConn this weekend.
Of Alabama’s nine remaining regular season games, seven of the opponents are currently ranked in the top 25 including all five currently ranked in the top 10.
So far this season, the Crimson Tide is 1-2 against ranked teams. Alabama is just 6-20 against ranked teams over the last four seasons.
