In what has already been a stellar career in Tuscaloosa, Alabama track star Doris Lemngole continues to put her name in the record books.

Over the weekend, Lemngole starred at the prestigious Millrose Games in New York, highlighted by a new collegiate record in the 3,000-meter race.

The Kenya-native crossed the finish line at 8:31.39, beating her previous personal best by more than 10 seconds and breaking the previous collegiate record by nearly four seconds.

With just 200 meters remaining, Lemngole made her move from third place, taking over the lead for the remainder of the race. She crossed the finish line ahead of professional runner Hannah Nuttall (second, 8:32.94) and BYU’s Jane Hedengren, who set an American collegiate record (8:34.98).

Sunday’s performance comes after her 2026 indoor season debut at last weekend’s Orange and Purple Invitational where she broke the Alabama record in the women’s mile (4:32.69).

Lemngole’s time was 25 seconds off the current world record which is held by China’s Wang Junxia, set in 1993.

For her performance, Lemngole was named the Women’s National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. It came just days after being named the association’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2025.

Earlier this year, Lemngole became the first Alabama athlete to win the Bowerman Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in NCAA Track and Field.
