Say hello to faster deliveries—Amazon Air has launched a daily cargo service at the Mobile International Airport (BFM). Read on for the scoop.

First, what is Amazon Air

Have you ever wondered how your Amazon orders manage to be delivered at record speed? No, it’s not magic. One way is actually via Amazon Air. Launched in 2016, it’s a cargo airline that operates exclusively to transport Amazon packages. The service will operate daily between Mobile and Alliance Field (AFW).

With operations in more than 50 US states, Amazon Air has made its first expansion in Alabama with the launch of a daily cargo service at the Mobile International Airport.

The Mobile Airport Authority leased 16,000 square feet of a 28,000-square-foot area to sort and load Amazon packages bound for their next destination.

“Amazon Air is an exciting addition to the Mobile International Airport. The daily cargo service will strengthen BFM’s impact as a regional transportation hub. We are grateful to the Amazon team’s commitment to Mobile and look forward to a strong partnership.”

Chris Curry, President, Mobile Airport Authority

This isn’t the first investment Amazon has made in the Mobile area

Amazon Air’s newest regional gateway joins MOB5, a 362,000-square-foot center that operates in west Mobile.

“We are excited to expand Amazon Air to Mobile, providing customers throughout Alabama and the surrounding region faster shipping speeds. Amazon continues to invest and grow in Alabama, and this new gateway ensures we can deliver on our customer promise of fast, reliable deliveries.”

Chris Preston, Director, Amazon Air Gateway Operations

The positives

Why is this exciting news? Here are some of the positives of this new daily cargo service at Mobile International Airport:

  • Faster, more efficient Amazon deliveries. With the holiday season revving up, the timing is especially great.
  • New job opportunities. Since its launch in 2016, Amazon Air has created thousands of new jobs at its locations across the US.

“This latest investment by Amazon is just another example of the opportunities and growth that will be afforded Mobile International Airport as the world continues to recognize Mobile as a multimodal transportation hub. We look forward to a successful partnership with Amazon as they enhance their customer service now and in the future.”

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson
