Auburn football to play Notre Dame for the first time in home-and-home series
Reading time: 2 minutes

For the first time ever, Auburn and Notre Dame will face off on the gridiron.
The two programs have agreed to a home-and-home series with regular season meetings in 2027 and 2028. Here’s what we know so far:
- Sep. 25, 2027: Auburn at Notre Dame
- Oct. 28, 2028: Notre Dame at Auburn
Those dates likely mean the games will fall in between a pair of SEC games for the Tigers, especially with the start of the 9-game conference slate starting next season.
The two programs seem to be moving in different directions at the moment with Auburn now searching for a new head coach who fans certainly hope will still be in charge of the team for the 2027 + 2028 games.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame is coming off its first national championship game appearance since 2012 and was ranked No. 10 in Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings.
Notre Dame vs. the SEC
Auburn will be the 11th SEC opponent Notre Dame has faced in program history. The Fighting Irish have also played against Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas but not since any of them joined the conference.
With the Tigers now on the schedule, the only SEC teams to not face Notre Dame are Kentucky and Mississippi State.
The Fighting Irish has played Alabama eight times, holding a 5-3 edge in the series despite losing the last two to the Crimson Tide. The two schools had previously agreed to play each other in 2028 and 2029 but that series has been called off.
Overall, Notre Dame has a 51-27 record against teams currently in the SEC.
