Auburn freshman sings national anthem before Final Four

While the Auburn men’s basketball team took the spotlight during its second ever trip to the Final Four, the university was represented by more than just the basketball players throughout the weekend.
One of those moments came from freshman Mary Katherine Malone who grabbed a microphone before the game began, singing the national anthem with one student-athlete from each of the other three schools at the men’s Final Four.

Mary Katherine Malone
Malone is a freshman at Auburn who competed in three cross country meets during the fall. Now, she’s preparing to be a distance runner for the Tigers track team during the spring.
The Mountain Brook graduate contributed to multiple state championship cross country teams in high school before joining the Tigers. She also enjoys playing piano + singing.
The NCAA has made a tradition of having a student-athlete from each school sing the national anthem together before the first Final Four game.
Last year, Alabama was represented on the same stage by diver Paul Mathews.
