Auburn moves to No. 1 in RPI ahead of rivalry weekend at Alabama

After a historic week at Plainsman Park, the Auburn baseball team has moved into the top spot in the RPI rankings for the first time this season.
The Tigers hosted No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 2 Texas, splitting the four home games. That was enough to take the nation’s top spot in the RPI, which ranks teams based on record and strength of schedule.
Next up is a trip to Tuscaloosa for a three-game series against the Crimson Tide. Here’s the schedule for the weekend at Sewell-Thomas Stadium:
- Friday, March 27: Auburn at Alabama | 6PM | SECN+
- Saturday, March 28: Auburn at Alabama | 7PM | SEC Network
- Sunday, March 29: Auburn at Alabama | 1PM | SECN+

Alabama baseball
The Crimson Tide was swept in its first SEC series but bounced back with its first sweep of Florida since 2002 which included a no-hitter from Tyler Fay.
Now, Alabama has a 19-7 overall record and sits at No. 12 in the RPI. The Tide sits at No. 22 in the Baseball America rankings and No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches Poll this week.
The Crimson Tide is 14-1 at home this season, winning 14 straight since dropping the season opener to Washington State.
Auburn baseball
While the Tigers have taken over the top spot in the RPI, they have not reached that point in any of the polls so far this season.
This week, Auburn’s rankings include:
- D1Baseball: #5
- USA Today: #5
- Baseball America: #6
The Tigers are currently in the midst of a 12-game stretch with 11 of them against ranked teams.
Auburn has a 20-4 record with a perfect 7-0 record away from Auburn so far this season, including a sweep of Missouri to start SEC play.
