The newest college rankings are out from the US News & World Report and a pair of Alabama schools are getting some national attention for where they sit in the 2027 rankings.

Auburn has moved into the top 100 nationally and remains the No. 1 university in the state for the third straight year.

Meanwhile, Tuskegee was named the best of the state’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities while ranking third among HBCUs across the country.

US News & World Report 2027 Best Colleges

Auburn is the only in-state school to break into the top 100 this year but others are not far behind. Eight total were ranked in the top 400 nationally.

Why Auburn topped the list

Auburn rose two positions to No. 100 nationally and three positions to No. 46 among public universities, maintaining its standing as Alabama’s highest-ranked university.

In addition to its overall rankings, the university placed among the Top 50 public universities in several categories including:

Auburn’s highest-rated undergrad program is its Supply Chain Management which ranked No. 17 overall. The undergraduate program in Nursing climbed 13 positions to No. 27 nationally.
