For the first time in program history, the Auburn women’s tennis team is ranked No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.

Prior to this season, the Tigers’ highest ranking was No. 4 but the team has posted a 32-3 record, slowly climbing the rankings before reaching the top spot this week.

“Being No. 1 in the computer rankings, especially after the conference tournaments, is a remarkable achievement. It’s probably right up there with winning the championships as the highest accolade you can get. The full body of work for the season is in play with all wins and losses accounted for.

“All of the credit to the players for having an amazing regular season and start to the postseason. We have one goal left and we’ll keep getting ready for that in the coming weeks. Very excited to be ranked No. 1 in the nation and hoping we can stay there.”

Auburn is now the No. 1-ranked team in both major college tennis polls, as UTR Sports College Tennis Ranking also has Auburn in the top spot.

The ITA formula-based ranking system uses an accumulation of win points and loss points, accounting for a win-loss record, the strength of schedule and the depth/significance of wins and losses.

As the season progresses, the value of wins and losses are constantly adjusted.

Auburn reached No. 1 with a rating of 80.60, just ahead of Georgia’s 80.41. No other team has a rating above 75.

The Tigers have five players in the top 65 of the ITA individual rankings with DJ Bennett leading the way at No. 15. Bennett is also on the team’s highest ranked doubles pairing, sitting at No. 2 with teammate Ava Esposito.

The Tigers reached the top of the rankings after winning a share of the SEC regular-season title earlier in the month and claiming the tournament crown at the 2026 SEC women’s tennis championship.

In the conference tournament, Auburn downed No. 12 Florida, No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 15 LSU to win the first SEC championship in program history.

The Tigers are 32-3 overall this season and have won six consecutive matches. Auburn will discover its seeding for the NCAA women’s tennis championship during the selection show, which is scheduled for April 27.
