Jackson Koivun is becoming an internationally-known name in the golf world.

Koivun, who led the Auburn men’s golf team to its first ever national championship in 2024, has added to his collection of trophies after he recently won the Mark H. McCormack Medal as the top male player in the 2025 World Amateur Golf Rankings by the USGA.

“I’m very grateful to everyone who has helped me, and it’s a dream come true. It’s a medal every amateur golfer strives for. It’s in the back of everyone’s head, and you just try and fight and keep playing well. To be able to say I’m a McCormack Medal winner is just really, really cool.”

With the recognition, Koivun also receives exemptions into next year’s 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills and the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.

Mark H. McCormack Medal

Established in 2007, the Mark H McCormack Medal is named after the late founder of sports marketing company IMG and is awarded to the player ranked number one in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Previous winners include:

Koivun is also a two-time first team All-American and back-to-back SEC Champion. He became the first male player in the history of the sport to sweep all three national player of the year awards (Haskins, Hogan, Nicklaus) in addition to the national freshman of the year award (Mickelson).

Following an outstanding sophomore season, Koivun became the third man to automatically earn PGA Tour status through the PGA Tour University Accelerated Program.

In six starts on Tour this calendar year, Koivun has made five cuts, including an active streak of three consecutive finishes inside the top 11. He delivered a career-best performance in early August at the Wyndham Championship, shooting 14-under-par to finish tied for fifth place.

Walker Cup

In September, Koivun is set to become the first Auburn player to represent the United States at the Walker Cup. The 2025 edition of the esteemed event is set for Sept. 6-7 at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California.

He was named to the team earlier this summer and will match up against Great Britain and Ireland at Cypress Point. Koivun is in the inaugural Elite Amateur Program, part of the US National Development Program launched by the USGA to help players navigate their college years and transition to the next level.

“Jackson has shown that he is a force in the amateur game and we’re proud to see him accept this honour and reap the benefits of all that comes with it. All of us at the USGA look forward to watching him compete at Cypress Point in a few weeks and know he’ll be a presence in our championships for years to come.”
