Every year, thousands of travelers hit the road for one of the nation’s most beloved events: the World’s Longest Yard Sale.
The World’s Longest Yard Sale, also known as the 127 Yard Sale, spans 690 miles and draws thousands of visitors each year. It runs from Gadsden, Alabama all the way to Addison, Michigan.

127 Yard Sale beginnings
The first World’s Longest Yard Sale began in 1987 in Franklin, Tennessee, by Mike Walker. The idea started as a way to showcase scenic, rural backroads and help small-town communities generate tourism.
It was named after Highway 127 because the route offered great views and passed through dozens of rural towns that were generally unknown. Over the years, the event extended, but it kept the nickname “127 Yard Sale” because Highway 127 remains the backbone of the event.
Today, the event has grown into an annual summer tradition across six states, with Gadsden serving as the official starting point since 2006.
What to expect
Before you arrive, expect thousands of vendors lining highways, parking lots, farms, and churches.
The yard sale will include:
- Crafters and artisans selling handmade jewelry, soaps, signs, and home décor
- Vintage collectors with vinyl records, comic books, old toys, and fashion
- Local farmers and food vendors selling fresh produce
Every stop offers something different, and no two miles are the same.
How to become a vendor
There is still time to participate in the event if you’re looking to sell some things. Vendor spots can be rented along the Gadsden and Fort Payne routes.
If you don’t live near the 127 Yard Sale route, you can rent a space from people who own property on the route. You must contact them directly to rent a space.
