Bama women defeat Auburn in annual Power of Pink basketball game
Reading time: 2 minutes

Have you ever driven past Coleman Collesium and wondered what those pink lights lining the street are? Those lights are for the University of Alabama’s Power of Pink games.
Once a year, women’s gymnastics and basketball show off in their pink to help DCH’s cancer fund. Read below for more details.
How it started
The events started in 2005 with Sarah Patterson, the former gymnastics coach. Patterson wanted to create an event to stand out, so she picked Alabama vs Auburn. Eventually, it spread to women’s basketball in 2007.
Power of Pink today

Fast-forward to now: The ladies throw on pink jerseys to show their support during their Iron Bowl. But, it’s not just jerseys. Pink pompoms, lights, and even Big Al showed his support.
More than the game
This year, the women’s basketball team visited the DCH cancer fund to bring smiles to the patients’ faces. They had the patients sign bright pink shoes, which Coach Curry wore to the game this past Sunday.
The crowd can participate, too. Breast cancer survivors did a walkout during halftime as the crowd cheered. Fans were able to write a name on their sign, the sign saying “I wear pink for___”.
Stats of the game
Alabama took home the win for their senior night, which meant a lot for the ladies leaving the team next year. The score was 66-50. For more stats on the game, click here.
Power of Pink sponsors

The DCH Cancer Fund in Tuscaloosa sponsors the Power of Pink initiatives. Now, the meets + games partner with Zeta Tau Alpha, a sorority on UA’s campus whose national philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness.
