The winners of the two best-of-3 division series will face off the following week in the Southern League Championship Series.
Montgomery Biscuits
The Biscuits clinched the second half South division title with more than a week to go in the regular season, securing a spot in the postseason for the 10th consecutive year.
Montgomery has also clinched the South division’s best overall record for the regular season.
While this is its 10 straight trip to the playoffs, the Biscuits still remain without a Southern League championship since 2005 when they won back-to-back titles in their first two seasons as a team.
Montgomery has lost the finals in two of the last four seasons, including being swept by Birmingham last year.
Birmingham Barons
Birmingham returned to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade last year, making the most of it and claiming the Southern League title.
This is the first time since 2008-09 that the Barons have made the playoffs in consecutive seasons. Now, they’re hoping to win consecutive championships for the first time since joining the Southern League in 1981.
Four teams have won back-to-back Southern League championships in the last 25 years with the most recent being the Jackson Generals in 2018-19.
