Highland Park General Manager Evan Godfrey weighs in on Alabama’s top golf courses

Evan Godfrey, PGA general manager at the Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham, which has been named by Golf Magazine one of the best municipal courses in the U.S. and most affordable, praised the choice of Pursell Farms in Sylacauga as the top choice.

“It opened about 20 years ago, and was actually part of the Honors Golf family. We have a close connection with it. Over the years, it’s continued to evolve adding more hotels and accommodations. It’s beautiful. Birmingham and the surrounding area is very lucky to have such a pretty and prestigious place right down the road.”

Godfrey had this to say about the runner-up the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Capitol Hill course — “The Judge” and the RTJG courses, which places eight of the ten courses on the list.

“It’s a beautiful property too. It’s kind of the flagship of the Robert Trent Jones Trail. A lot of people make sure that they have the courses in Prattville on their list when they come to Alabama to play.”
