The Big Lots Distribution Center in Montgomery plans to layoff 491 employees beginning this week, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce’s WARN List.

The company reported the layoffs to the state of Alabama right before Christmas.

In late December, Big Lots struck a deal with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, LLC — Variety Wholesalers to acquire between 200-400 Big Lots stores, avoiding the closure of all the popular retailers’ stores nationwide.

  • Sylacauga
  • Troy

There are still 23 Big Lot stores left in Alabama and 960 in the U.S.

Additional closings in Alabama are expected to occur in 2025.
