The Magic City is losing another professional sports franchise.

The Birmingham Squadron is relocating after the 2025-26 season to Kenner, Louisiana, a suburb less than 20 miles from the home arena of its owner the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans.

Below is a statement the Birmingham Squadron provided to ABC 33/40 about the move:

“As we assess our basketball operations, we have determined that it is best moving forward that the G-League team, Squadron, are located closer to the Pelicans team.”

The club thanked fans and BJCC CEO Tad Snider and Mayor Randall Woodfin for their leadership.

Seven games remain on the Squadron’s 2025-26 schedule, with the final match-up slated for March 24 against the Windy City Bulls at Legacy Arena.
